Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Journalism

The Journalism degree is designed to prepare students for careers in the media industry by developing the knowledge and practical skills required of modern journalists. The programme supports the development of agile, independent reporters who can work across multiple platforms while understanding the important democratic role journalism plays in society.

Developed in collaboration with industry experts and researchers, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of journalistic practice alongside insight into the wider challenges and developments within the industry. Students gain experience in a range of skills, including live reporting, interviewing, and producing content across different media formats.

The programme emphasises the ability to engage with contemporary issues, equipping students to report on diverse and evolving news agendas while applying professional standards and critical thinking.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
