Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Computing (Foundation Year) (G405)
London Metropolitan University - Holloway
What you will study
If students are interested in studying computing but they don’t have the necessary qualifications to start a standard undergraduate degree, the Computing (Foundation Year) BSc degree can provide them with an alternative route into higher education. This four-year course will teach students the fundamentals of computing, cyber security, mathematics and programming.
This Computing (including foundation year) BSc degree has been accredited with full CITP status by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. This accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by BCS. As a graduate of this course, accreditation will also entitle students to professional membership of BCS, which is an important part of the criteria for achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status through the Institute. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
The course begins with a preparatory year to help build students confidence and increase their skills. The foundation year in this course is shared with other foundation degrees, so students will get to study alongside other students who are interested in a variety of specialisms.
In the foundation year students will learn the fundamentals of cyber security, design and communication, programming and mathematics. This knowledge will serve students well as they proceed into the following three years of the course. Students will also have access to London Mets world-class facilities including their Cisco labs, Cyber Security Research Centre and Intelligent Systems Research Group.
After the foundation year, students will have the flexibility to change their degree specialism should they wish to. The tutors will be there to support students from the very beginning, helping them to recognise their strengths and pushing them to succeed on this four-year course.
Students will graduate with a full undergraduate degree with the same title and award as those who studied the traditional three-year course.
After students have completed the foundation year, they will continue to study the same modules and course content as students on the Computing BSc (Hons) degree.
An International Bright Futures Scholarship in the amount of £3,000 will automatically be applied to eligible students with overseas fee status starting a degree with London Met in the 2024/25 academic year. This scholarship includes a tuition fee reduction for the duration of students' studies and is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Tuition Deposit is £4,000 for all students excluding those from Punjab and Haryana for whom the deposit amount will remain at 50%
