What you will study

The BSc (Hons) Computer Networks and Security with Foundation Year is designed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in cyber security and network infrastructure. With a strong focus on the practical needs of modern organisations, the course equips students with the knowledge and technical expertise required to secure and manage complex computer networks in an increasingly digital world.

Delivered over four years, the programme includes a Foundation Year that provides a broad introduction to key computing concepts, with progression dependent on successfully passing all modules. The course takes a practice-led approach, combining hands-on experience with a solid grounding in theory, and utilises industry-standard tools and technologies to prepare students for professional environments. Students also benefit from the University’s links with organisations such as Cisco Systems and the Microsoft Academy Centre, with opportunities to gain additional industry-recognised certifications from providers including Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, and the Linux Professional Institute.

The curriculum covers areas such as network engineering, programming, server systems, and cyber security, alongside management topics including project and change management. Graduates are prepared for a range of roles within the field, including network security engineer, network administrator, network security analyst, and network security architect.
