Overview
The International Foundation Year in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a structured pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology degree. The programme develops foundational knowledge in health and life sciences while preparing students for undergraduate study within a specialist healthcare discipline. Students explore relevant scientific and health-related concepts and develop essential academic skills including research, academic writing, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning. The programme also helps students become familiar with the UK higher education environment, including university teaching, learning and assessment methods. Through structured academic support, students can build confidence and prepare for the demands of professional healthcare education. After successfully completing the foundation stage and meeting the required progression criteria, students can progress to the BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology degree. The undergraduate programme can provide opportunities to develop knowledge related to cancer care, radiotherapy, treatment principles, patient support and professional healthcare practice. Students can explore the role of radiotherapy in the treatment and management of cancer while developing communication, teamwork, safety and patient-centred skills. This pathway is suitable for international students interested in healthcare, cancer treatment and medical science who want additional academic preparation before progressing to undergraduate radiotherapy and oncology education and developing future professional opportunities in specialist healthcare settings.
