Sheffield Hallam University - Collegiate
What you will study
The International Foundation Year in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a structured pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Child) degree. The programme is designed to develop foundational knowledge in health and life sciences while preparing students for undergraduate study in professional healthcare. Students explore relevant scientific and health-related concepts and develop essential academic skills including research, academic writing, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning. The programme also helps students become familiar with the UK higher education environment, including university teaching, learning and assessment methods. Through structured learning and academic guidance, students can build confidence and develop the knowledge required for further study. Successful completion of the foundation stage and meeting the required progression criteria allows students to progress to the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Child) degree. The undergraduate programme can provide opportunities to develop knowledge and professional skills related to caring for children and young people, including child development, health promotion, communication and patient-centred care. Students can explore the healthcare needs of children across different stages of development and learn about effective approaches to supporting young patients and their families. This pathway is suitable for international students passionate about children's healthcare who want additional academic preparation before progressing to professional undergraduate nursing education and future healthcare careers.
