Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Business Information Technology
Birmingham City University (BCU)
What you will study
The BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology (BIT) course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to bridge the gap between IT and business, enabling them to drive digital transformation, innovation, and organisational growth. The programme focuses on developing the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a range of industries. While it provides a strong foundation in core computing principles, it places particular emphasis on the digital transformation skills that are increasingly essential in today’s information-driven economy.
Students are supported throughout their studies by experienced teaching staff, many of whom have professional backgrounds in computing, are actively involved in research, and collaborate with industry partners to stay at the forefront of innovation.
The course is suited to those seeking to combine a rigorous academic qualification with practical, real-world experience. It encourages students to think like developers and problem-solvers, enabling them to influence the design, development, and implementation of information systems within organisations. In addition, students gain a solid understanding of how data can be effectively utilised to support informed decision-making and improve business performance.
The course also offers an optional professional placement year, allowing students to spend a full year with an employer after successfully completing their second year. This provides valuable industry experience and can enhance career prospects, with some students returning to their placement employers after graduation. Students are responsible for securing a placement, supported by the University’s careers services and employer networks. A reduced fee, equivalent to 20% of the standard full-time course fee, is payable during the placement year.
