Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Paramedic Science (B780)

The Paramedic Science course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become autonomous, effective, and safe paramedics. The course reflects the rapidly evolving dimensions of the health and social care sector, addressing the needs of individuals. It focuses on contemporary paramedic science practice and the highly responsible role paramedics play in assessing and treating patients.

Clinical education is central to paramedic science, and approximately 50% of students' time will be spent on practice placements in both ambulance and non-ambulance practice settings. This structure helps students develop professionally and apply theory to current practice. At times, placements may occur alongside planned teaching, which means that shifts and placements will need to be appropriately scheduled.

The program has strong working links with South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb), with students spending most of their placement time working alongside professionals within this Trust. Additionally, they will undertake some placement time in community settings, GP practices, and secondary care, ensuring exposure to the entire patient journey.

Students will be immersed in paramedic science throughout the course and will be supported by academics and professionals with extensive experience. From developing practical skills in clinical simulation suites to responding first to scenes and assessing patients' conditions, they will encounter a variety of situations and provide care in both emergency and non-emergency contexts.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as paramedics.
