Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Business Information Systems with foundation year
Canterbury Christ Church University
What you will study
Almost every modern business is reliant on information technology to perform and succeed: from the Amazon-sized businesses to the smallest ebay-traders. Information Systems allow businesses to co-operate with their suppliers and customers to provide mutual benefit.
This course will enable students to develop specialist skills and in depth knowledge, so that they can play a key role supporting a wide range of businesses and sectors. During the degree, students will develop their understanding of how an organisation, its people and its technology can improve business sustainability. As students learn about these three areas, they'll be building their knowledge and putting it into practice through project work. A key feature of this course is learning how to talk the language of IT and Business, bringing both sides of an organisation together. Following the CDIO - conceive, design, implement and operate - model of learning, they'll cover all the elements of an IT project from conception, through design and implementation to final operation and review.
The foundation year aims to improve students' computing knowledge and prepare them for study at undergraduate level. Those who have previously enjoyed studying Business and Computing, or aspire to become a Business Analyst, IT Project Manager or Business Change Specialist, then this course is for them.
Students will learn using IT software that is modern and commercially relevant, such as the Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Visio, web-based content management systems, database systems such as Postgres and MySQL, and rapid prototyping software like Balsamiq.
