Edinburgh Napier University - Craiglockhart Campus
What you will study
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) – Intercultural Business Communication and Marketing Management (N801) offers students the opportunity to study a balanced joint degree, dedicating equal focus to both subject areas under the guidance of experienced academic and industry professionals.
In the first two years, students develop a solid understanding of the core concepts and approaches in both intercultural business communication and marketing management, applying their knowledge to a range of real-world case studies and scenarios. This foundation prepares them for the third year, when they can choose either to study abroad or undertake a work placement within the UK. Both options provide valuable experiences for applying and deepening their understanding of communication and marketing across diverse cultural and professional contexts. Students also gain important intercultural skills by living and studying abroad or by working alongside new colleagues and clients in relevant sectors—experiences that are highly regarded by employers. In the final year, students specialise in their chosen areas of interest by conducting research projects, including a dissertation.
The programme is shaped by the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), established under the UN Global Compact, which calls on higher education institutions to transform management education and develop responsible decision-makers equipped to advance sustainable development. As a PRME signatory, the Business School integrates sustainability into its teaching, research, and practice to influence professional and policy developments nationally and internationally.
The School’s mission—to empower communities to apply business knowledge for positive societal impact—underpins a curriculum that embeds the principles of sustainability and aligns with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes reflect one or more of these goals, with research focused on solving real-world problems and contributing to global sustainability targets, as mapped against the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
Edinburgh Napier University’s ongoing commitment to sustainability is reflected in its consistent top-three ranking among Scotland’s 19 universities in the national People & Planet Sustainability League Table, which assesses performance across environmental and ethical criteria, including carbon management, education, and governance.
Edinburgh Napier University values and celebrates the diversity of perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds within its global community. The University is committed to fostering an inclusive environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, disability, age, ethnicity, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, or parental status. The institution is dedicated to providing a learning, working, and social environment free from discrimination, prejudice, intimidation, stigmatization, and all forms of harassment and bullying, ensuring equality and inclusion are central to the student experience.
