Birmingham City University (BCU)

What you will study

The LLB (Hons) Law degree offers a practice-based and comprehensive introduction to legal study, providing a strong foundation for those aiming to become solicitors or barristers, as well as for a wide range of alternative careers.

The course is designed to align with the academic requirements needed to progress towards the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), while also meeting the expectations of the Bar Standards Board for a qualifying law degree.

A strong emphasis is placed on employability throughout the programme. Central to this is the Law Clinic, where students have the opportunity to work on real cases and engage with clients across a range of legal areas, including Immigration Law and Welfare. Additional placement modules and volunteering opportunities further enhance practical experience and exposure to the legal profession.

The course also offers an optional professional placement year between the second and third years of study, allowing students to gain valuable experience within a legal or professional setting. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.

Overall, the degree equips graduates with legal knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience, preparing them for further training and careers within the legal sector and beyond.
