What you will study
If a students has ever wondered about why footballers get paid more than nurses, or what caused the financial crisis, then Economics is for them. Economics relates to every aspect of life, from the decisions humans make as individuals to the structures created by governments and firms. In a nutshell - Economics will help students to understand how the world works. Economics is concerned with the key issues facing us today, including globalization, pollution and poverty. Students will study issues such as unemployment, pollution, demand and supply, banking and finance, business economics, and the difficult decisions the UK Government faces when it attempts to steer the economy in a chosen direction. Students will learn to understand the world around them; it’s current, it’s about the modern world, it’s about how humans behave, how businesses behave and how the government behaves. Economics links well with most subjects especially subjects like Maths, Psychology, Geography, Government and Politics, and Philosophy. The course is considered to be a ‘gold standard’ – an academic course that is well respected and liked by universities. Economics students make a significant contribution to the annual MMU’s Festival of Social Science and participate in Warwick University’s Economics in Action Conference.
