Liverpool Hope University - Hope Park
Sustainability is a defining concept of the modern era and is essential to the business world and the broader economy. As a global challenge, it demands collective action from governments, businesses, and individuals. As King Charles III recently noted, the “…most existential challenge of all [is] that of global warming, climate change and the catastrophic destruction of nature.”
There is ongoing political and societal pressure to ensure that businesses are transparent and accountable in their sustainable development practices. Business leaders, multinational corporations, and small to medium-sized enterprises are increasingly working to clean their production processes and actively participate in the green transition. They acknowledge that “good business is good business.”
Currently, 80% of business leaders express optimism about the green transition, viewing it as a source of greater opportunity and job creation rather than a threat to employment. However, only around half of businesses are implementing staff-focused green skills programmes, with the resulting shortage of green skills presenting a major obstacle to further progress in sustainability.
Liverpool Hope Business School has over twenty years of experience in teaching and researching responsible business practices and sustainability. Its approach to business sustainability is framed around the 4 Ps: People, Purpose, Planet, and Profit. As such, students enrolling in the new Masters in Business Sustainability will be well-positioned to pursue careers in organisations seeking expertise to meet sustainability challenges—both in terms of the green transition and broader sustainable development goals.
