Overview
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) – International Festival and Event Management and Marketing (N835) is an applied course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to plan, develop, and deliver festivals and events, while also understanding how these activities intersect with the marketing function across a range of industries.
With opportunities for a 24-week work placement and study abroad, the programme offers excellent preparation for a career in festival and event management or marketing.
The degree includes compulsory modules from both areas of the title, supported by optional modules in additional marketing specialisms, ensuring graduates are career-ready and equipped to stand out in the competitive marketplace.
Blending theory and practice, the course enables students to develop a strong understanding of fundamental marketing principles, with the option to explore specialist areas such as international marketing, direct and digital marketing, and social media marketing. Students also gain essential business, communication, and problem-solving skills.
In the first year, students are introduced to key themes and concepts related to the operational aspects of event management within the broader context of associated industries. They also acquire core business knowledge to understand how organisations operate.
During the second year, students study event design, including a practical assessment, and explore topics such as sports events, venue management, and facilities operations—building on the foundations established in the first year.
The first half of the third year places events within their broader political and social context, with a focus on conferences and corporate events. The second half of the year adopts an industry focus, during which students either complete a 24-week work placement or undertake a consultancy-based Live Project.
The final year centres on the dissertation, a substantial piece of independent academic research. Additional modules address event sustainability and strategic management, preparing graduates for leadership roles in the events and marketing industries.
