Overview

The BSc (Hons) Business and Entrepreneurship programme is designed for individuals with a strong entrepreneurial ambition, aiming to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to establish and grow successful ventures. This practice-focused course prepares students to contribute to socio-economic development and engage effectively within both national and international business environments.

The programme develops leadership, innovation, and adaptability, enabling students to operate in a fast-paced, globalised economy. With a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence, big data, and emerging technologies, it supports the development of agile and forward-thinking business professionals capable of making an impact in a constantly evolving landscape. The course is structured to empower students to become future business leaders, whether as entrepreneurs launching their own ventures or as intrapreneurs driving innovation within existing organisations.

A key feature of the course is its support for entrepreneurial ambitions, offering access to facilities, expert guidance, and business mentors through BCU’s STEAMhouse business incubator.

The curriculum covers core areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurial thinking, consumer behaviour, business strategy, and sales and negotiation. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge in business, entrepreneurship, and personal development. The second year builds on this by encouraging students to address real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions through case studies and practical applications. In the final year, students concentrate on entrepreneurial practice, including financing new ventures, scaling businesses, and collaborating with live clients and local organisations to solve real-world business problems.

The course also offers an optional professional placement year, allowing students to spend a full year with an employer after successfully completing their second year. This provides valuable industry experience and can enhance career prospects, with some students returning to their placement employers after graduation. Students are responsible for securing a placement, supported by the University’s careers services and employer networks. A reduced fee, equivalent to 20% of the standard full-time course fee, is payable during the placement year.
