Overview
The BSc (Hons) Construction Management with Foundation Year is designed to prepare students for leadership roles within the construction industry, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to manage projects from initial design through to completion and occupation. The course reflects the needs of a major UK industry, developing the ability to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
The four-year programme includes a Foundation Year, which provides a broad introduction to key concepts and supports progression onto the full degree, with continuation dependent on successfully passing all modules. Throughout the course, students develop expertise in managing complex construction projects, working collaboratively with professionals from diverse disciplines and backgrounds.
The curriculum explores the legal, technical, managerial, economic, social, and environmental aspects of construction, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and the long-term impact of construction practices. Through engagement with industry partners and problem-based learning, students build both practical and intellectual competencies aligned with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Graduates leave with a comprehensive understanding of construction management and the skills required to oversee both commercial and civil engineering projects, preparing them for a range of career opportunities within the sector.
