University Certificate - Environmental Studies and Geography

The University Certificate in Environmental Studies and Geography at Bishop’s University is offered through the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Geography, which provides a wide range of courses examining the relationship between humans and the natural environment.

To achieve a comprehensive understanding of human–environment interactions, students explore both the science of the natural world and the impacts humans have on their surroundings at local, regional, and global scales. The program emphasizes the importance of understanding how and why the environment is changing, addressing critical issues such as global warming, acid precipitation, ozone depletion, waste management, and water conservation. These subjects are studied in depth to prepare graduates to contribute effectively to environmental decision-making in government, industry, and non-governmental organizations.

Bishop’s University’s location within a region characterized by economic, cultural, and physical diversity provides students with valuable opportunities for hands-on fieldwork and applied projects. Such experiential learning is an essential part of the program, particularly within courses related to physical geography and the human impacts on the environment.
