Overview
The BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Technology with Foundation Year is a multidisciplinary degree designed to equip students with both technical and managerial skills for a successful career in IT. The course combines academic learning with practical experience, using industry-standard equipment and laboratories, and offers the option of a placement year to gain real-world experience with a range of organisations.
Students benefit from strong links with industry partners, including Microsoft, Cisco, and the Linux Professional Institute, with opportunities to gain additional professional certifications alongside their degree. The curriculum is informed by industry to ensure it remains relevant and aligned with current employment needs, while teaching is delivered by experienced staff with professional and research backgrounds in computing.
The four-year programme includes a Foundation Year, which provides a broad introduction to key concepts and supports progression onto the full degree, with continuation dependent on successfully passing all modules. Based at the University’s City Centre Campus, students have access to dedicated facilities for developing enterprise software, virtual environments, and real-time systems, enabling them to apply their knowledge to practical and innovative solutions.
