Master of Laws (LLM) - International Commercial Law (with Placement Year)

The International Commercial Law LLM examines current developments in international commercial law, including the impact of geopolitical tensions on international agreements, sanctions on global markets, and emerging issues related to digitalisation, climate change, and sustainability. Students study public international law alongside international commercial law, international economic law, human rights, and corporate governance while learning to apply legal principles within real-world commercial contexts. They also complete an independent legal project in their chosen specialism to develop advanced expertise in international commercial law. The course combines academic study with practical legal training. Through opportunities such as mooting, negotiation, client interviewing, and participation in the University of Brighton Legal Clinic, students develop legal research, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills. Studying in Brighton also provides access to the city's legal community, while its proximity to London enables students to engage with institutions and organisations involved in international commercial law. Students may choose to undertake an industry placement or research year to gain valuable professional or academic experience. The placement option enables students to apply their legal knowledge in practice, while the research year provides opportunities for advanced independent research. The two-year study option also allows eligible international students to benefit from the UK Graduate Route by studying in the UK for two years instead of one.
