Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Physical Science (X0G:5) (0100809):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology and Bachelor of Science - Zoology (93H):

The double degree allows students to deepen their knowledge and expertise within two separate study areas. This means students can choose from University of Tasmania’s range of exciting, diverse courses and they can embark on a journey as unique as they are.

The University of Tasmania’s science degree provides students with a foundation of core skills in science, analysis, and rational thinking. They have options to focus their studies in one or more scientific disciplines and learn the methods to apply their skills and knowledge to the practical needs of industry, business, and government in both scientific and non-scientific roles.

The BICT is a specialist degree with both a theoretical and practical focus. It develops technological understanding and skills that are in high demand world-wide, plus builds project management and other business soft-skills that make students an ICT professional.

The zoology major is for students with an interest in the biology of animals, in particular the behaviour, distribution, physiology and conservation of wildlife.

Students get an opportunity to learn: • Biology of Animals provides an introduction to the scientific study of animals. Students are introduced to animal diversity through studying the major invertebrate and vertebrate phyla with an emphasis on Australian examples. • Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology aims to provide students with an understanding of animal behaviour within an evolutionary and ecological framework. There will be an emphasis on fundamental principles (e.g., the ways in which animals interact with their own and other species and the environment, mechanisms to maximise reproductive success, determinants of fitness of an individual). • Students also get an opportunity to learn about Ecology, Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolution, Functional Biology of Animals, Population and Community Ecology, Genetics and Evolution, Conservation Physiology and Disease Ecology, Scientific Methods in Biology and Fauna of Tasmania.
