The DEC program in Childhood Education Techniques aims to meet the training needs of people who work or will work with children aged 0 to 12.

This program will allow trained people to carry out tasks and exercise functions relating to the educational mission and basic care to be given to children.

The childhood educator works with children aged between 0 and 12 years old. As soon as they come into contact with their work environment, they are called upon to meet the child's basic needs. To do this, they must ensure the child's safety, assess the child's needs (hygiene, comfort, sleep, nutrition), give them appropriate care and evaluate the relevance of the interventions made.

In addition to satisfying basic needs, the childhood educator must satisfy the child's psychological and educational needs. To this end, they must establish a meaningful relationship with the children. Students must maintain a climate conducive to the development of the child and the group through interventions related to individual or collective behavior.

Finally, the educator must create a living environment that promotes the child's psychomotor, cognitive, language, social-emotional and moral development. To do this, they must design, organize, lead and evaluate daily activities adapted to the specific needs of the clientele.

The general educator working in childcare services will thus be able to practice their profession with all child clients in Quebec, in all types of childcare services. Students will be trained to perform all daily functions required to meet the needs of the children.
