2-Term Pathway - International Foundation Year in Business, Law, Social Studies - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Accounting and Finance

Program Description The International Foundation Year is a two-semester programme delivered at the International Study Centre offered by StudyGroup. Upon successful completion of the International Foundation Year, and achieving the required grades, students will join the first year of their chosen undergraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

The pathway to the first year of a business, law or social studies degree The programme includes academic modules, study skills and English language training, providing complete preparation for their undergraduate degree.

On the Business, Law and Social Studies route, students will:

• learn about the importance of financial management, and the operational and strategic challenges facing the businesses • gain understanding of the concepts and models of micro-economic and macro-economic analysis • develop core mathematical skills that will be relevant to their undergraduate degree • gain business skills, including decision-making and problem solving • for Law, students will study the English legal system, the mechanics of the legal process, justice and those who administer it.

Over the two-semester programme, students will study a number of core modules that relate to their chosen progression degree. The modules have been designed by expert academics at the International Study Centre, in collaboration with LJMU, to ensure students have the skills they need to succeed upon progression to the University.

The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance at Liverpool John Moores University offers students the chance to secure professional accreditation from the four main accountancy bodies in England and Wales.

It also gives students a head start on the path to gaining a professional accountancy qualification, as it allows a number of exemptions from UK professional accountancy exams.

One of the benefits of the course is the option of taking a year out to complete a paid placement in industry, in the UK or overseas. However, if students prefer not to take a whole year out from their studies, they will have other opportunities for work-related learning.

Students on this programme also have the opportunity to spend one or two semesters in their second year on the identical Liverpool John Moores University degree programme at their partner college in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, keeping the professional body recognition of their studies at Liverpool John Moores University. Liverpool Business School also has partnerships with business schools at universities and colleges across Europe, in the USA and in China. Students can choose to spend an additional year of study at one of Liverpool John Moores University's partner universities between the second and third years. All study abroad opportunities are in English. There are also many supported opportunities to study at partner universities during summer vacations and Liverpool Business School provides places on language skills courses.
