Use MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray/CT to create images that support patient health

Play an important role in Canadian healthcare Diagnostic Imaging Technologists (DITs) are vital members of healthcare teams, working closely with patients across all stages of care. This advanced diploma program—one of only two of its kind in Ontario—offers specialized training in MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray/CT. Students develop the skills needed to deliver patient-centred care in a variety of healthcare settings.

Specialize in MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray/CT In the first year of the program, students gain foundational knowledge about how MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray/CT equipment capture images. In the second and third years, they take specialized courses in their chosen discipline. Graduates have the option to obtain a second diagnostic imaging specialty within one academic year by completing seven additional courses.

Hands-on learning and real-world experience Students benefit from cutting-edge technologies and innovative learning experiences, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and high-fidelity mannequins. Starting in the second year, students gain real-world experience in hospital settings. By graduation, they will have completed more than 1,300 supervised clinical hours.

Work towards industry certifications Sheridan’s proposed cluster of Diagnostic Imaging programs is designed to align with the accreditation standards set by Accreditation Canada (EQual™). The MRI and X-ray/CT specializations support the development of entry-to-practice competencies expected to be required for future certification eligibility through the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). Sheridan College is committed to meeting all necessary requirements to support graduate registration and certification.

Partnerships with local healthcare providers Sheridan’s allied health programs maintain strong relationships with leading healthcare providers in the community. A partnership with Humber River Hospital provides students with the opportunity to work with real-life patients during clinical placements. Other healthcare partners include:

• University Health Network hospitals

• Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

• William Osler Health System

• The Hospital for Sick Children

• Hamilton Health Sciences Centre

• London Health Sciences Centre

• Niagara Health hospitals
