The course is designed to include at least 24 weeks’ school placement experience. The University of Roehampton's vast network of 400 partner schools across London and the south east means they are able to ensure students' placements are all within a reasonable commute, and that they include a diverse range of school types. Completing this teacher training degree will give students the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Please note that the availability of a subject specialism is dependent upon a minimum number of students opting for it. The Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) awarded to graduates is, first and foremost, a qualification to teach in England. Many other countries will recognise it but, if the student's plan is to teach overseas, the University of Roehampton recommends that they contact the relevant authorities in their country of choice beforehand to check their eligibility. On this course, students will: • Spend increasing amounts of time in different schools, moving from support teacher (first year), to sharing teacher (second year), to lead teacher (final year). • Study modules to develop both their subject knowledge and their understanding of the art of teaching. • Gain a solid grounding for working with children, and develop the skills they need to support their learning in practice. The University of Roehampton's pedagogic and professional studies modules cover learning theory, child development, behaviour management, classroom management, special educational needs (SEN) and English as an additional language (EAL). • Cover all the National Curriculum subjects. In English, for example, students will look at language development, and the teaching of reading and writing; and in maths, students will explore how to develop children’s mathematical understanding. • Choose from a wide range of subjects to specialise in, and be equipped to teach their chosen specialism across the primary age range. • Have the opportunity to spend some time abroad on a trip organised by the School of Education, as well as going on field trips, and visiting museums and art galleries, to explore learning beyond the classroom, and how to pass these experiences onto their pupils.
