The Paralegal Studies program provides students with a solid foundation to start their career in the legal industry. After graduating, students can apply to transfer into MacEwan’s Bachelor of Commerce.

The paralegal studies core curriculum includes legal ethics, law firm processes, time management, client relations and interpersonal and team skills to prepare students to work in a legal setting.

This program focuses on core legal subject areas such as real estate transactions, creditor and debtor law, civil litigation, commercial transactions, corporate procedures and administrative procedural law. Students also have the option of customizing the program to further their studies in such areas as criminal law, family law and estate law.

Students develop computer skills, understand file management and specialized legal software and develop effective presentations. Solid writing and communication skills are critical for work in the legal environment, and in this program they will learn to analyze, summarize and synthesize written material of all kinds.

This program emphasizes hands-on learning. In the last term, students participate in a five-week field placement in a legal setting.
