Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) programme at Derby equips students with the knowledge and skills to use and develop IoT and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices and applications, enhancing both business operations and societal functions. Learning is delivered through industry briefs, case studies, and real-world projects, including examining the practicality and usability of IoT systems, addressing ethical considerations, and developing systems to improve manufacturing or transport processes. Lectures and practical sessions are complemented by input from industry experts.

Module content is inspired by local communities and the city while maintaining global relevance, with collaborations on challenging projects involving organisations such as Rolls Royce PLC, Toyota Manufacturing GB, CERN, Bloc Digital, Alstom, Bentley Motors, Gardner Aerospace, JCB, AddQual, and GXO. The IoT connects everyday objects to computer networks, creating opportunities across smart appliances, healthcare sensors, autonomous vehicles, and industrial systems. Its underlying technologies include sensors, actuators, software, connectivity, and data science, with significant societal and industrial impact.
