Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Nursing - Mental Health

The BSc (Hons) Nursing – Mental Health degree is designed to prepare students for a professional career in mental health nursing, providing the clinical skills, knowledge, and practical experience required for effective practice. Students undertake placements in a variety of settings, including community services, hospitals, home environments, and simulated practice settings across the West Midlands and beyond.

The course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), allowing graduates to apply for Registered Nurse status upon successful completion.

The programme aims to develop adaptable and compassionate practitioners who can meet the mental health needs of individuals across the lifespan. Students are supported in becoming skilled, knowledgeable, and emotionally intelligent nurses, capable of delivering person- and family-centred care while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

During the first two years, university-based learning is shared across all nursing fields, providing a broad and integrated foundation. In the final year, study becomes more specialised, focusing specifically on mental health nursing. Each year combines theoretical learning with practice-based experience, including a year-long practice module in the first year designed to build confidence, competence, and the ability to lead and coordinate care.
