The program addresses a unique and growing industry demand for interdisciplinary sustainability practitioners with knowledge and skills that span technology, environmental considerations, and economic and social impacts. It combines management expertise in sustainability accounting, carbon management, and sustainability business case development with project management, environmental policy, regulatory knowledge, and research skills.

As an applied degree, the program emphasizes experiential learning through case-study analysis, real-world applications, an industry-based capstone project, and a work-integrated learning term. The program is also dedicated to incorporating Indigenous content and knowledge throughout its courses. Instruction is delivered in a hybrid format, with approximately one-third of instructional hours offered online in synchronous and/or asynchronous formats.

Graduates of this three-year program are career-ready, equipped with practical skills applicable to a variety of professional sustainability roles.

Students gain practical skills and knowledge across key areas including environmental science and sustainability, technological innovations, management, business strategies, social impact, communication, leadership, research, governance and policy, as well as data analytics and reporting.

The management components of the program focus on change leadership, project management, sustainable accounting, development of business cases, and the integration of sustainability into business decision-making. Throughout the program, students engage with Indigenous knowledge and perspectives, as well as the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. They develop the analytical and leadership skills necessary to address sustainability challenges through inclusive and intersectional approaches that reflect diverse experiences and impacts.

During the first two years, students participate in hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for a work term placement. In the final year, they apply their accumulated skills in a real-world industry or community-based capstone project.
