Dual Degree - Bachelor of Science - Environment and Physical Geography & Bachelor of Education - Junior/Intermediate (PET)

Students will first complete their Bachelor of Science in Environment and Physical Geography. Once complete they will move into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.

Geography is the interdisciplinary study of the world, its physical characteristics like water, landforms, vegetation and climate as well as the relationships between people and the environment. The Bachelor of Science in Environment and Physical Geography is concerned with environmental and physical geography, including climatology, hydrology, geomorphology, biogeography, and geology. Students can choose to focus on one of these topics in upper years for a more concentrated stream of study.

Nipissing University's facilities include a state-of-the-art research wing and geomatics lab. Students collect and work with data, including digital maps, satellite imagery, and the most advanced geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing software. Where field research, soil, rock formation, water, and flora sampling are concerned, the campus location couldn’t be more ideal. Situated within 291 hectares of Canadian Shield forest, amid a plethora of protected natural areas, parks, important historical sites, and fresh water systems, students will find themselves perfectly positioned to study with an amazingly diverse and outdoor lab right at their doorstep.

After completing their Bachelor of Science, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.

The BEd program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:

P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10) I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)

Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
