Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Civil Engineering

The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree is designed to prepare students for professional careers within the civil engineering sector, aligning with the requirements of relevant professional bodies.

The course places a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, supported by access to industry-standard tools such as CAD software and strong links with industry partners. Students also benefit from studying within a simulated workplace environment, helping to develop real-world experience and professional skills.

Throughout the programme, students gain knowledge of the scientific, technical, environmental, economic, and managerial aspects of civil engineering. This enables them to contribute to both the design and management of a wide range of engineering projects.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, providing an opportunity to gain valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.

The degree equips graduates with the knowledge, practical experience, and industry awareness needed to pursue successful careers in civil engineering.
