The Faculty of Arts & Science offers programming leading to a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), or a Bachelor of Arts and Science (BSc). These degree options are tailored to students' specific areas of interest across three academic divisions, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. In addition to traditional degrees, many departments offer specialized programs or participate in the delivery of multi-disciplinary programs and majors.
For the Bachelor of Arts and Science, students must complete two majors: an Arts major, and a Science major.
The Department of Modern Languages & Linguistics offers instruction in three languages: French, Japanese and Spanish (beginner to advanced).
In today's globalized context, students of modern languages are being prepared for membership in a global community that extends far beyond the boundaries of the English-speaking world. Modern Languages is about far more than just learning how to communicate in another language. It’s about exploring other identities and values through language, literature, history and culture in a global community.
Students who study French/Spanish will gain awareness of other cultures through courses in language, literature, and culture and civilization, and through academic and living experiences in Canada or abroad.
Classes are taught in the language being studied — so, French courses are taught in French and Spanish classes in Spanish. Students can specialize in one language or study a combination.
Psychology delves into what makes people tick. Psychologists study the relationship between mind and behavior by investigating the nature of thought processes and behaviors in humans and other animals.
Psychologists also study the evolutionary, social and cultural factors affecting the development of people's thoughts and behaviors, focusing on topics that have a direct bearing on their day-to-day experience.
A major in Psychology will help students develop skills in analyzing and interpreting complex material, particularly as it relates to behavior. They will learn theories of how people interpret the world and act in it, as well as theories of human behavior.
Students will learn from those at the forefront of psychological research. Faculty members are regularly published in the top journals and make an ongoing contribution to an ever-advancing field.
Students will inevitably become a savvy and critical consumer of evidence-based information related to people’s behavior such as self-help, psychological and medical advice.
