2.5-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate in Humanities - Continue to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy with Business Management

Program Description For students who've finished high school but don’t meet the entry requirements for university, a Foundation Certificate can help them gain entry to an undergraduate degree. After completing this pathway option students qualify for progression to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Essex.

A student’s course length is determined mainly by their English language level (UKVI IELTS score). Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. Students taking a course longer than 2 terms, will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy with Business Management

The BA Philosophy with Business Management will feed students intellectual curiosity and challenge their thinking. It allows them to dig deeper into ideas and question received wisdom. At the same time, they will acquire the skills to manage organizations and gain an understanding in how business works in an increasingly complex world.

At Essex, they take philosophy back to its roots in everyday existential, social, and political problems. They embrace the relevance of philosophy to other forms of inquiry - political, cultural, legal, medical, aesthetic – and bring it to bear on urgent issues in public life, such the moral status of capitalism or public policy regarding mental health and end of life care.

With the BA Philosophy with Business Management, students will explore a range of subjects enabling them to develop the widest possible understanding of complex philosophical issues and challenge their way of thinking as they obtain a grounding in management.

During the course students will cover key areas including but not limited to:

• Capitalism • Ethics • Political philosophy • Existentialism and Phenomenology • Human Resource Management • Organizations • Marketing

The School of Philosophy and Art History has been ranked in the top 20 in the UK for research excellence (REF 2014, mainstream universities, THE 2014).
