The BA (Hons) Business Management and Human Resource Management at Derby develops specialist HR knowledge alongside strong business acumen, preparing graduates to add significant value in people management and HR roles across organisations. The degree is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), enabling graduates to progress towards associate membership of this leading professional body. Students also have the opportunity to complement their HR specialism with a respected Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Diploma, strengthening their management credentials. Professional mentoring further enriches the programme, with opportunities to engage with external CMI and CIPD mentors who are experienced practitioners working in HR and management roles.

Closely aligned with CIPD professional standards, the programme provides up-to-date and relevant skills in planning and implementing HR policies and strategies, while examining the role of HR in talent management, employee engagement and organisational performance. Teaching covers essential themes such as recruitment, management and retention of employees, employment law and its application to workplace challenges, equality, diversity and inclusion, leadership and management development, high-performance working practices, and contemporary issues shaping the modern HR landscape.

Learning is strongly practice-focused, with work-related learning, live consultancy projects, topical case studies and business simulations embedded throughout the course. The BA (Hons) Business Management and Human Resource Management is offered as a four-year degree including a placement year between the second and third years, with the option to study over three years full-time and undertake internships during summer breaks.
