Dual Degree - Bachelor of Science - Mathematics & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior (PEU)

Students will first complete their Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Once complete they will move into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.

Mathematics is an integral part of everyday lives and is in the background of simple tasks like driving a car, playing video games, searching information using Google, or paying bills online, as well as much more complicated things like predicting the weather, space travel or medical imaging. As the foundation of many scientific disciplines, Mathematics is the study of numbers, patterns, space and change. Students who are a problem-solver, logical thinker and enjoy working independently, consider undergraduate degree in Mathematics.

The Bachelor of Science option is great for students who want to combine their interests in Math and Science. They will choose from one of three streams: Pure Mathematics; Applied Mathematics; or General Mathematics. Further, students can tailor their degree to their interests by choosing elective courses like Biology; Chemistry; Physics; and Geology. The Bachelor of Science is also the best route for students considering pursuing graduate studies.

After completing their Bachelor of Science, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.

The BEd program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:

P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10) I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)

Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
