Genesee’s biology classes open the natural world to students by revealing the intricacies of life, from the cellular level in a laboratory to the complex community and ecosystem levels in the campus woods, to high-tech science laboratories around the world. With a concentration in Biology, students will have a working knowledge of how life works and the skills and techniques necessary to conduct laboratory research. Genesee’s excellent science and math professors are with students in every step of the way, to help them perform real time experiments, think critically, and solve problems.

In this program students will take courses in biology, chemistry, and math while fulfilling their general education requirements. The program will seamlessly transfer to most SUNY institutions and private schools.

Upon successful completion of the Biology A.S. the student will be able to:

• Apply quantitative skills to solve scientific problems. • Produce results or findings through scientific investigations or experimentation, and document as appropriate. • Analyze and interpret scientific data. • Design solutions to scientific problems, based upon carefully planned and executed processes. • Demonstrate how evolutionary forces shape organisms, leading to changes in species over time. • Explain how structure is essential for function in life from the atomic level to the organism level. • Explain the functioning of the hereditary process (storage, use, replication of genetic information).
