Master of Research - Molecular Medicine

The MRes Molecular Medicine at the University of Derby is designed to help students develop the essential research skills needed for a successful career in molecular medicine. This master's programme focuses on cultivating confident, independent researchers who can plan, execute, and evaluate their own biological research projects. It offers a flexible study structure, allowing students to choose between full-time or part-time study to suit their personal commitments.

This course provides a stand-alone research qualification or serves as a bridge between an undergraduate degree and a PhD, making it an ideal option for those seeking to further their academic or professional career in molecular medicine. Students will have the opportunity to conduct substantial research projects in their specific area of interest under expert supervision, ensuring they gain practical experience while developing their academic competencies.

The University of Derby offers specialized laboratory facilities to support students’ research activities. These include a molecular laboratory equipped with qPCR and DGGE equipment, an imaging suite, a human cell culture facility, a dedicated microbiology laboratory, and an analytical suite with advanced equipment such as GC/MS, HPLC, AAS, UV-Vis, IC, as well as scanning electron and transmission microscopes. Additionally, the University has recently secured £850k in funding to establish a cutting-edge Omics facility. This new facility will focus on emerging research areas like genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, providing students with exposure to the latest advancements in molecular research.

Through this comprehensive programme, students will gain not only the theoretical knowledge but also the practical experience needed to excel in the rapidly evolving field of molecular medicine.
