The MSc Social Science Research Methods provides advanced training in research methods across the social sciences. The program offers ESRC recognition and meets the training requirements for ESRC PhD funding. Students are provided with interdisciplinary study opportunities, the application of social research expertise for career development, and the pursuit of specific areas of interest at the postgraduate level.

Students are equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge on constructing effective research studies, various data collection methods, and analyzing social scientific data. They are also introduced to the political and ethical frameworks of social science research and the dissemination of research results.

In the Sociology pathway, the program is known for its research excellence and methodological innovation in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Students have the chance to collaborate with leading researchers, explore different themes and approaches, and attend seminars and data analysis sessions organized by interdisciplinary research groups and major research centers such as the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods.
