Year One Foundation Program in Science - Transfer to Bachelor of Science - Astrophysics

When students join the University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program, they become U of A students from day one. They receive academic support that prepares them to enter a bachelor’s degree program in their second year, along with a “soft landing” to studying in Canada.

The University of Alberta’s Year One Foundation Program represents the first year of a four-year bachelor’s degree. It is designed for students who have course deficiencies and do not yet meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen degree program. Upon successful completion of the program, students progress directly into the second year without losing time on their path to graduation.

Why study this program? Our Astrophysics program explores a wide range of questions about the physics and properties of stars, galaxies and the universe. You will study the properties of and physics behind astrophysical objects, and, through computational lessons, develop the tools and techniques to solve physics and geophysical problems. The learning process is enhanced through access to department resources including the Astronomical Observatory, which is available for solar and evening observing.

Why study at University of Alberta? The Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta delivers high-quality programs that investigate, explain, and explore the real science behind issues that affect our daily lives. With 12 teaching departments and 29 areas of study, it is one of the most comprehensive science faculties in Canada, with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, and opportunities for undergraduate research.
