Astronomy and Astrophysics is a specialised research area within the Physics and Astronomy postgraduate research programmes (MPhil), focusing on the study of the Universe through both observational and theoretical approaches. The programme makes extensive use of leading international telescopes, including facilities in Hawaii, La Palma, and space-based observatories such as the Hubble Space Telescope. In addition, the programme includes significant work in general relativity and gravitational wave astronomy, covering both the design of detection instruments and the analysis of signals from astrophysical phenomena such as black holes, neutron stars, and supernovae.
