About Centre for Arts and Technology

Centre for Arts and Technology is not your typical community college or university. The foundation was built over 30 years ago by leaders in both media training and educational excellence. The journey has been long with many different paths being bridged together – the end result is one of Canada’s leading colleges in digital arts and technical training.

Today, we are recognized as one of the few schools that continually graduate successful students in the areas of filmmaking, animation, audio engineering, event management, interior design, photography, graphic design, and network security.

But we are more than hallways and classrooms, instructors and students. Centre for Arts and Technology is a community that is built through industry contacts and advancing technologies. It is a college that nurtures students along their educational journey, providing challenges and opportunities, mentorship and motivation, all while fostering a collaborative environment where students can reach their full potential.

It has been said by many that have walked through our doors – “you can really feel the difference”. This is one of the greatest compliments we can receive and is something we are always striving to achieve. We want to feel different because we want to be different. It’s not only what makes Centre for Arts and Technology special, it’s what makes the students special. We have two campuses to serve our students; Kelowna and Surrey, each with their own campus personality and feeling. Our doors are always open to visitors, please don’t be shy, book your campus tour today!

Cultural life at Centre for Arts and Technology

Whether your program is based in Surrey or Kelowna, there is plenty to do outside of your studies. Both cities have a variety of shops, restaurants, cinemas and much more.

It’s easy to entertain yourself in Surrey, with art galleries and museums, grand parks, and the stunning Crescent Beach. Or you can catch a 45-minute train to Vancouver and explore the third largest city in Canada.

Kelowna offers a huge choice of activities, in all seasons. In the winter, you can go skiing in the mountains nearby. In the summer, visit one of its beautiful beaches or swim or sail in the stunning Okanagan Lake.

Accommodation Options at Centre for Arts and Technology

Centre for Arts and Technology does not provide housing but students have options for reasonable housing in the surrounding area:

Homestay

Live with a host family to build on your English language skills and have a ready-made home here in British Columbia. This is an affordable alternative to renting where you’ll have your own room but shared spaces where you can bond with a Canadian family.

Private rental

If you would prefer your own apartment you can arrange to rent in the city. The average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in the City Centre is $1250 CAD per month (as of January 2019). The cost of living in Surrey is 21% lower than in central Vancouver so this cost will vary depending on the neighborhood.

Location and Infrastructure

Both of CAT’s campuses are in British Colombia, in the south-west of Canada. Surrey is near the coast, south of the Fraser River and north of the border with the United States. Kelowna lies in the centre of Okanagan Valley, the largest city on Okanagan Lake.

CAT’s Surrey campus is based in the heart of the city, right next to the Central City Mall and the King George Skytrain station. Surrey is near Vancouver, a centre for the creative industries, especially film and TV. You will feel at home near Vancouver, one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Canada, where 52 percent of the population speak a first language other than English.

CAT’s Kelowna campus, three hours inland from Surrey, is also in the city centre. Kelowna is surrounded by stunning natural scenery and its growing Cultural District offers a huge amount to see and do. The city is home to world-famous animation companies like Disney Interactive Studios, Bardel Entertainment and Yeti Farm Creative.
