Hamilton is only a 1.5 hour drive from New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, and is central to many other North Island towns and beaches.

Cultural life at Waikato University

Students at Waikato Pathways College live and study at the main University of Waikato campus, allowing them to feel immersed in the University and student life from the day of arrival.


Students will discover a friendly and inclusive student community at Waikato, with a diverse community from more than 80 different countries. The University offers a range of clubs, social events and activities across the academic year to help students relax and enjoy their time at the University.


Social sport is a great way to make new friends and meet like-minded people. The University offers a range of sports facilities on campus, including one of the best-equipped gyms in the region, a 50-metre swimming pool, squash, and netball courts, sports fields and an indoor cricket facility.


Accommodation Options at Waikato University

Waykato Pathways College offers four different types of accommodation for students; housing, self-contained or fully furnished living rooms, as well as general or independent living in houses or apartments. The living rooms are purposeful and equipped with a single, furnished bed, table, chairs and wardrobe. The rooms have telephone and Internet connection, as well as free WiFi. There are common laundry detergents for students to use.

Location and Infrastructure

Located in the centre of North Island, Hamilton is the fourth largest city in New Zealand and is just a one-and- a-half-hour drive south of Auckland. The city has a relaxed and welcoming feel, with a vibrant multicultural community, with many shops, restaurants and cafés.
