Double Degree - Honours Bachelor of Arts - French and History & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior

Lakehead University’s Faculty of Education prepares prospective teachers for a dynamic and rewarding career through unique and innovative programming. By emphasizing critical thinking skills and collaborative learning, students will have the flexibility to explore the teaching methods, concepts and values that are meaningful to them.

This program emphasizes practical, experiential learning to ensure students are fully prepared to enter into the workforce post-graduation. Lakehead University’s programs are continually adapted to encompass a variety of educational settings and training opportunities in two divisions: • Primary-Junior (P/J): JK – Grade 6 • Intermediate-Senior (I/S): Grades 7-12

The Concurrent Education program allows students to take courses in both the Faculty of Education and the faculty offering their academic major before taking two years exclusively with the Faculty of Education; five-year program.

In Canada, the ability to communicate effectively in French (one of the country’s two official languages) is not only an asset but it can be a requirement for many careers. A written, spoken, and literary understanding of more than one language gives students a unique edge both personally and professionally. It is not necessary for them to be fluent in French prior to enrolment. Classes are designed to facilitate language development for those at all skill levels as long as admission requirements are met.

By studying in the Department of Languages students will learn: • Advanced competency in French - reading, writing, and speaking • Cultural literacy • Communication skills in a creative learning environment • Socio-cultural and literary topics from across the globe

The academic and professional pursuit of History is the process of bringing the past to life. The study of History encompasses all aspects of human experience, from wars to celebrity culture, and is constantly evolving as knowledge and perspectives advance.

As a History student, they will have the flexibility to pursue their interests within the discipline and the ability to regularly collaborate with their professors due to our small class sizes. This program’s courses provide students with various approaches to the study of History and the necessary skills to analyze any issue within its historical context. They will examine historical topics from North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa and South Asia.
