Foundation Program (Standard) (089916J) + Diploma of Design (097895J) + Bachelor of Design (109273C)

Program Description The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. It aims to prepare students for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor degree.

The course consists of either a standard or extended track program. The standard track program consists of eight academic units: five core units and three elective units. The extended track program has an additional four units.

Various support services focusing on language, literacy and numeracy assistance are also available to help students in their studies. Each unit includes four hours of classes per week. Assessment for all units is continuous and includes tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final two-hour examination. To graduate from the Deakin College Foundation Program, students must complete and pass all eight units in the standard program or 12 units in the extended program.

The Diploma of Design builds the foundation for further study in visual communication, animation and digital technologies. In the diploma course, students will learn the strategies and design-thinking methodologies required to become an adaptable, multidisciplinary designer.

Students can let their imagination run free and create the unexpected with the Bachelor of Design (3D Animation) at Deakin. They will explore how animation is used across film, television, advertising, web, motion-capture and game design – and learn to draw or digitally create characters that leap off the page and screen.

During this degree, students will learn the tools, strategies and design methodologies required to develop creative, technical and analytical skills in animation production.

Students will also explore design histories and theories and gain expertise in animation methods like computer graphic animation (3D CG modelling, character design and rigging, CG lighting and rendering) and motion-capture techniques. They will use the same design tools as the professionals and gain hands-on industry experience by developing design solutions for real-world audiences.
