The Engineering Physics Diploma in Mechatronics is designed to teach a student how to connect mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software systems to create smart technologies and drive innovation.
The program is self-contained, enabling students to enter the workplace immediately, but gives student a background in math and science that is adaptable for completion of a full BSc degree in Physics at UFV, or an Engineering degree from another institution. Student's learn topics such as mechanics, circuit analysis, microelectronics, sensors and actuators, and microcontrollers and embedded systems, and acquire a strong theoretical grounding in physics.
The program is 67 credits, designed for students to go either directly to the workplace or to ladder to a UFV Bachelor of Science degree with a Physics major. Those completing the diploma may also be eligible to transfer to an engineering degree at another institution.
As an emerging field, mechatronics has been accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. It is a discipline in full expansion. As our world relies increasingly on electromechanical systems to power new technology, the need for trained mechatronics engineers and technologists will continue to grow.
