Canada’s growing demand for skilled trades workers has led Conestoga College to offer a range of industry-focused trades programs. The one-year welding and metal fabrication program is designed for individuals interested in becoming welders or metal fabricators.

The program covers all theoretical and practical learning outcomes required for Level 1 of Ontario’s Welder (456A) and Metal Fabricator – Fitter (437A) apprenticeship programs.

Students develop practical welding skills in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with modern technology. Training covers common arc welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG).

Graduates who pursue an apprenticeship in either trade may be eligible for exemption from Level 1 in-school training. Students may also have opportunities to complete optional welding skills qualification tests required by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB). Additional fees are payable directly to the external welding test authority.

Instruction is delivered by faculty who combine extensive teaching experience with decades of professional experience in the welding industry. Graduates are prepared to pursue apprenticeships and entry-level opportunities as welders or metal fabricators.
