Business is continually evolving to incorporate an increasing number of information technology (IT) resources for staff, enhancing productivity in the workplace. This two-term Ontario College Certificate program provides students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to configure and troubleshoot end-user computers, server operating systems, infrastructure services, and networks. Learners develop their abilities through hands-on activities that reflect typical tasks in a business environment, with a focus on IT support roles and client needs. Program outcomes • Identify, install, and service the components of a typical business computer system using specific practices and procedures. • Install, configure, and update operating systems and application software based on client needs. • Build a local area network using hardware and software to connect systems together for the purpose of sharing data and resources. • Identify methods used to provide effective IT network support and services to address user needs. • Communicate technical information effectively using various forms of documentation to notify stakeholders of setup and/or repairs made to the infrastructure. • Complete all work in compliance with relevant policies, practices, processes, and procedures. • Solve problems typical in an IT infrastructure services setting relating to installation, monitoring and configuration using diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures. • Utilize identified hardware and software to secure computer systems within a business infrastructure. • Develop a strategy for professional improvement, currency and sustainable success in the field.
