2.5-Term Pre-Master's for Science and Engineering - Continue to Master of Science - Information Science

Program Description For students who hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at City, University of London. The course length is determined mainly by English language level (UKVI IELTS score).

Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If the course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Master of Science - Information Science

City's MSc Information Science is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of information systems and services, and their relevance and impact within different layers of society.

The course examines information infrastructures, communication processes, systems and services. This course is grounded in the history and philosophy of information, embracing the legal, ethical, social and economic impact of information within specific subject domains, individual organisations, and contemporary society.

Content covers the fundamental concepts of data, information and knowledge, and builds on these to consider: metadata; database structure; information resources, retrieval, and access; measurement, analysis, and visualisation of information; preservation and security; information literacy; use of new and emergent technologies; methods of investigation; socio-cultural implications and policy formulation.
