A Paralegal (PLE) is a trained legal professional assisting lawyers with substantive legal work like research, document preparation, case management, and client interaction. In Ontario, paralegals provide specified legal services directly to the public for a fee without lawyer supervision. This two-year diploma program prepares student for the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) licensing examination to become a licensed paralegal, adhering to the Law Society Act. They will learn legal ethics and small-business practice, preparing them for roles in law firms, government, or as a self-employed professional. Fluency in English is crucial for success, with a strong emphasis on effective communication skills throughout the program. They will develop skills in: • Written and verbal communication
• Drafting legal documents
• Advocacy, including examination, cross-examination, and argument submission
• Legal research and writing
• Analyzing and applying legislation to real-life situations
• Negotiation and conflict resolution
