As graduates of the Personal Support Worker program, students are prepared to provide essential support services to individuals and families in need. This rewarding career enables them to assist children, adults, and seniors with special needs or disabilities, improving their quality of life. The two-semester program is ideal for those re-entering the workforce, emphasizing hands-on, task-oriented skills and practical experience in long-term and community care. Innovative lab facilities simulate real work environments, ensuring a strong theoretical foundation aligned with practical application. This program offers comprehensive, hands-on learning that enhances student development and patient care. Key enhancements include: • Hands-On Skill Practice with Patients: Emphasizes practicing skills on patients rather than fellow students for a patient-centered experience.
• Mentorship Framework: Students are paired with experienced mentors from St. Joseph’s at Fleming for real-time clinical support.
• Case Studies and Reflective Practice: Analysis of real-life care scenarios fosters critical thinking and ethical decision-making.
• Resident-Centered Activities: Learners lead activities to enhance residents' well-being and develop individualized care approaches.
• Revised Course Sequencing: Courses realigned to better address patient care needs, building foundational knowledge.
• Access to Electronic Health Records (EHR): Students access St. Joseph’s systems, including EHRs, to familiarize themselves with clinical documentation.
