Dual Degree - Bachelor of Science - Psychology & Bachelor of Education - Intermediate/Senior (PEU)

Students will first complete their Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Once complete they will move into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.

Nipissing University's Psychology program answers questions about how people behave, think, feel, and learn to cope with stress, as well as why people feel happy, or how people remember information. Whether it’s working on brain tissue or learning about psychotherapy, Nipissing University's Psychology program covers it. Award winning and funded Professors regularly encourage undergraduate students to join their lab groups. This provides students with invaluable research experience that helps them engage with their courses and prepare for future careers or graduate studies. Nipissing Universities’ relatively small size provides a huge advantage for students in terms of increased opportunities to get involved while not sacrificing on course offerings. The Psychology Department offers a full slate of courses that cover all major areas of the discipline.

Students can choose between the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programs when they study Psychology at Nipissing University. The main difference between the two degree options is in the electives students choose. BA students will take humanities and social science elective courses (e.g., English, Philosophy, Criminal Justice, Sociology, and History), while BSc students will take electives from the sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics). The BSc program offers the possibility of adding a Certificate in Neuroscience when certain courses are combined with an Honours thesis in a Neuroscience area. The BA program offers a Certificate in Early Intensive Behavior Intervention – Autism Spectrum Disorder.​

After completing their Bachelor of Science, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.

The BEd program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:

P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6) J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10) I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)

Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
