3-Term (Extended) Undergraduate Foundation Program - Life Sciences - Continue to - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Nursing with Registered Nurse (Children and Young People)

The Undergraduate Foundation Program in Life Science program is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to a wide range of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Lancashire.

The Foundation portion of this program lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.

There are four academic pathways to choose from and candidates will study the pathway most suited to their chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare them for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

Children’s nursing is a family affair and happens in many different places. One day the students could be nursing new born babies in hospital, supporting the parents as they learn to care for their sick baby. Another day they could be supporting an adolescent prior to an appendix operation, or performing a procedure in the home of a child with complex care needs, or supporting a young person with emotional difficulties in a clinic situation.

In all cases the child, young person and their families will feel vulnerable and be experiencing anxiety, a loss of control and even frustration. It will be their job to work with them to answer questions and gain their confidence in the students clinical abilities and patient care plan.
